NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (AP) ? A key prosecution witness in the trial of a former Rutgers University student accused of watching his roommate's intimate encounter via webcam testified Monday that she agreed to keep it a secret because it was so shocking to see the images ? but that it wasn't under wraps for long.

"First of all, it was shocking. It felt wrong. We didn't expect to see that. And now that what we did, it was like we shouldn't have seen it," Molly Wei said told jurors. "We didn't want people to know what had happened."

But within minutes, she testified, she and defendant Dharun Ravi were online chatting with friends about seeing two men kissing. And within the hour, Wei said, she agreed to show a few seconds of the video stream to four other women who visited her dorm room.

Still, she said, Ravi did not intend to humiliate his roommate.

Ravi's roommate, 18-year-old Tyler Clementi, jumped to his death from New York's George Washington Bridge in September 2010, days after the spying and the gossip about it online and in their dorm.

Ravi, who turns 20 on Tuesday, faces 15 criminal counts, including invasion of privacy and bias intimidation. To convict him of bias intimidation, the most serious charge he faces, prosecutors would have to persuade jurors that Ravi acted out of bias toward gays.

Wei, 19, was charged initially but entered a program that will allow her to keep her record clean if she meets a list of conditions, including doing community service, working or attending school full-time. She also agreed to cooperate with authorities and testify truthfully in Ravi's trial.

She said she has completed about 250 of the 300 hours of community service required.

There is one requirement that was changed for her. She was to go through a program on cyberbullying or dealing with people with "alternative lifestyles." Since no program like that was offered in Middlesex County, she instead saw a psychologist.

Unlike other more casually dressed college students who have testified so far in the trial, Wei wore a black business suit. And unlike the others, she kept her voice audible even during the most uncomfortable moments.

She said that she invited Ravi, whom she had known since middle school, to her dorm room for a snack a few minutes after 9 p.m. on Sept. 19, 2010. When Ravi tried to go back, she said, Clementi told him that he wanted the cramped dorm room to himself for a few hours. So Ravi returned.

Within a few minutes, she said, he used her computer to view live images from his webcam. It was then, she said, that she saw about two seconds of Clementi and an older man kissing.

Even though she said they initially agreed not to talk about what they had seen, she asked Ravi to tell a friend about it during an online chat that began at 9:20 p.m. And within minutes, word got around the dorm.

She said she agreed to turn the webcam back on at the request of a woman who was among a group dropped by her room.

"It was the exact same image, except that they had taken their tops off," she said. "As soon as they saw it, I turned it off."

Ravi's defense lawyer, Steven Altman, asked a series of questions about Ravi's intentions.

? "Dharun never told you he wants you to go around telling everybody about what you saw on those two seconds Sunday night?"

? "Dharun never told you he wanted to make Tyler uncomfortable?"

To each, she answered, "No."

Also Monday, jurors heard from university official William O'Brien that Clementi requested a room change about 30 hours after the alleged spying ? and a day before he killed himself.

O'Brien, associate director of residence life at Rutgers, told jurors that his staff did not see Clementi's request for a new roommate until after he was reported missing from campus.

Banana Wonder: Extreme PDX Urban Food and Drink Hike (10 ...

Last weekend, an urban hike happened. We walked over 10 miles and consumed god knows how many calories. It was supposed to be pouring rain that day, but luckily, Portland weather PMS turned in our favor and stayed dry.?


We started off at my place in the deep Southeast,?otherwise?known as?Outer Space with fresh orange-pear mimosas to, well, gather strength. This got us to His Bakery, a tiny Jesus centered bakery specializing in cinnamon rolls and cakes. They were about to close, but we managed to snag a few wrapped buns. *bonus: the little old lady running the front microwaved our pastries for us.

The next stop was to Arleta Library Bakery Cafe for the proclaimed "Portland's Best Biscuits-n-Gravy." In this town, those are fighting words, especially with joints like Pine State Biscuits?around. I got a hot tip Arleta was worth its words from my pal H.C. L.A. and O.C. Foodventures, who is coincidentally the inventor of the urban hike, having organized epic urban hikes all over Southern California.

I totally ignored "The Grecian."

My big regret in the photo taking process is that I didn't get a cross section to show the glorious, yellow-gold,?flaky?biscuits. Rich, savory with a hint of piney freshness from the rosemary, the gravy proved to be a cosmic component of the dish. ? Did we love every last drop?

After the biscuits and gravy?comatose, a walk was very much needed.?

Portland has its very own cider bar, so a visit to Bushwhacker Cider was necessary. Many of us had their featured dry cider, which looked like sparkling water, but tasted like crisp?refreshment. We also ate a round of pickled hard boiled eggs here (not pictured and not for the faint of heart).




We walked to Hawthorne to one of Portland's most famous food cart conglomerates. You know, the one with Whiffies Pies and Potato Champion.?Our strategy: get as much as possible and everyone take communion.?




This is the closest I got to documenting the $5 BBQ beef and mozzarella whiffie pie. It was a glorious bite of tender beef and mild BBQ sauce.?




Chili cheese fries from Potato Champion. To be perfectly honest, these were not memorable and I have no idea why poutine was not in hand.?




The sleeper of the night was Bubba Bernie's?Oyster Po' Boy. There is nothing better than a freshly fried, perfectly crispy oyster with a touch of horseradish and all the cooling vegetables to balance for perfection.?

So good, another was ordered.?

No urban hike in Portland is complete without crossing a bridge. The Hawthorne got crossed in this case.?
We went straight to Hubers Cafe for Portland's best Spanish Coffee. While it was true that these coffees are delicious, I wasn't in the mood for a coffee this late at night and was unable to finish my drink. I will?definitely?come back for a late morning or early afternoon kick one of these days, sit in one of the dark booths and read something by Henry Miller.?




And now...?drum roll?please... we made it to the Pearl for the grande finale: bone luges at Metrovino. A bone luge is a shot of booze funneled down an emptied shank bone. Thanks?http://boneluge.com/. At Metrovino, you actually have to eat the marrow from the roasted bone first.?




At this point, the crowd has gathered (aka my MBA cohort and fiance) and the luging had commenced.?




I performed my bone luge with a?recommended sweet?Riesling?while others opted for tequila and port. Was it all that? Not to me, but at least one of my friends said it was the highlight and favorite thing consumed of the trip.?

Don't knock it till you try it.

As we left the?restaurant, I looked down at my?iPhone?and realized it had been a complete 12 hours of urban hiking. Extreme, indeed.?

UN nuke inspectors leave for key talks in Tehran

VIENNA (AP) ? A senior U.N. nuclear official said Sunday he hoped for progress in upcoming talks with Iran about suspected secret work on atomic arms, but his careful choice of words suggested little expectation that the meeting will be successful.

The comments by Herman Nackaerts as his International Atomic Energy Agency team prepared to leave for Tehran for the second time in less than a month appeared to reflect IAEA reluctance to raise hopes that Iran will engage on an issue that it claims has no substance.

Before the trip, senior diplomats told The Associated Press that Russia and China ? strategic and economic partners which Iran traditionally relies on to blunt Western pressure over its nuclear activities ? were urging Tehran to cooperate with the IAEA team.

Moscow and Beijing are "using some pretty high-level diplomacy" to persuade Iran, said one of the diplomats, who asked for anonymity in exchange for discussing confidential information coming from his capital.

Still hopes were slim. A previous IAEA mission returned from Tehran on Feb. 1 without managing to dent Iran's wall of denial. In comments to reporters at Vienna airport, Nackaerts was at pains to avoid raising hopes.

"Importantly, we hope that we can have some concrete results after this trip, and the highest priority remains of course the possible military dimensions of Iran's nuclear program," he said. "This is of course a very complex issue that may take a while, but we hope it will be constructive."

Iran has refused to discuss the alleged weapons experiments for nearly four years, saying they are based on "fabricated documents" provided by a "few arrogant countries" ? a phrase authorities in Iran often use to refer to the U.S. and its allies.

Faced with Iranian denial, the IAEA summarized its body of information in November in a 13-page document drawing on 1,000 pages of intelligence. It stated then for the first time that some of the alleged experiments can have no other purpose than developing nuclear weapons.

The IAEA team wants to talk to key Iranian scientists suspected of working on a weapons program. They also hope to break down opposition to their plans to inspect documents related to nuclear work and secure commitments from Iranian authorities to allow future visits.

But before the trip, senior diplomats told the AP that Iran had made no commitments ? despite the Russian and Chinese attempts at persuasion and a rapidly growing series of international sanctions threatening to choke Iran's oil lifeline and financial system.

The most recent squeeze on Iran was announced Friday, when SWIFT, a financial clearinghouse used by virtually every country and major corporation in the world, agreed to shut out the Islamic Republic from its network.

Tehran remained defiant Sunday, announcing has halted oil shipments to Britain and France, in an apparent pre-emptive blow against the European Union after the bloc imposed sanctions on Iran's crucial fuel exports.

At the same time, it appeared eager to show it was ready to talk. Even before receiving an answer on its offer last week to meet with world powers on its nuclear program, Foreign Minister Ali Akhbar Salehi on Sunday set Istanbul, Turkey, as the venue of those negotiations.

Beyond concerns about the purported weapons work, Washington and its allies want Iran to halt uranium enrichment, which they believe could eventually lead to weapons-grade material and the production of nuclear weapons. Iran says its program is for peaceful purposes ? generating electricity and producing medical radioisotopes to treat cancer patients.

Its activities at its plant at Fordo, near the holy city of Qom are of particular concern because it is dug into a mountain and possibly impervious to attack ? an option that both Israel and the United States refuse to rule out should diplomatic persuasion and sanctions fail to stop Tehran's nuclear drive.

Reflecting growing jitters that the Israelis are poised to strike, both U.S. and Britain on Sunday urged Israel not to attack Iran's nuclear program.

The U.S. joint chiefs of staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey, and British Foreign Minister William Hague said an Israeli attack on Iran would have grave consequences for the entire region and urged Israel to give international sanctions against Iran more time to work. Dempsey said an Israeli attack is "not prudent," and Hague said it would not be "a wise thing."

In interviews Friday and Saturday, diplomats told the AP that Iran is poised to install thousands of new-generation centrifuges at the cavernous facility ? machines that can produce enriched uranium much more quickly and efficiently than its present equipment.

While saying that the electrical circuitry, piping and supporting equipment for the new centrifuges was now in place, the diplomats emphasized that Tehran had not started installing the new machines and could not say whether it was planning to.

Still, the senior diplomats ? who asked for anonymity because their information was privileged ? suggested that Tehran would have little reason to prepare the ground for the better centrifuges unless it planned to operate them.
